Robert L. Sharp, 88

Robert Lee Sharp, 88, of Newcomb, Tennessee, passed away July 18, 2016, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Born in Elk Valley, September 29, 1927, he was preceded in death by his parents, Isham McKinley and Nola Meadors Sharp; brothers, I.M. and J. Will Sharp; and sisters: Bertha Jane Perkinson, Nancy Lull, Berta Ann Farmer and Alma Watkins.

He was a member of Newcomb Baptist Church; was a life-long farmer and cattleman, serving on numerous agricultural and civic boards; and served as a Merchant Marine during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Meredith Sharp of Newcomb, Tenn.; son, Jerry (Debbie) Sharp of Newcomb, Tenn.; daughters, Jane Morrow of Old Hickory, Tenn., and Cathy (Harry) Kyker of Greenville, Tenn.; grandchildren: Brad Sharp, Josh Sharp, Christie McFarland, Kevin Morrow, Jeremy Morrow, Chris Walden and Jake Walden; great-grandchildren: Kayla, Carter, Landon, Emory, Sloan, Patton, Landry and Lincoln; brother, Jim (Sue) Sharp; sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Sharp and Nola Sharp; and several nieces, nephews and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted July 22, at Newcomb Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Helton, Rev. Doug Clem and Dr. Charles Wilkens officiating. Interment followed at Douglas Cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #154 of Elk Valley.
