Freddie Phillips, 79

James Fred “Freddie” Phillips, 79, passed away December 6, 2016, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Born in the New River community, April 12, 1937, he was preceded in death by his parents, James F. Phillips and Flora Parsons Phillips High; wife, Mary Martha Storey Phillips; and sister, Eunia (Monroe) Hutson.

He was a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, accepting the Lord as his Savior in the 1970s; belonged to the Eastern Star and the Robbins Masonic Lodge; and served in the Army’s 427th Med Corp in Germany from 1960 to 1962, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. He worked at the Scott County Hospital for more than 34 years, and volunteered for 11 years. He made his co-workers and patients smile each and every day, never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacie Phillips; nephews, Floyd (Sue) Hutson and Richard (Lois) Hutson; in-laws: Delma Jones, Pearl Kidd, Rita Storey, Emma Storey, Sam (Donna) Storey, and Ples (Wanda); special friends: Kim and Tim Lay and David Byrd; and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted December 10, in the chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home-Huntsville with Bro. Billy Lowe and Bro. Michael Ray Jeffers officiating. Music was provided by Fairview Missionary Baptist Church Choir and Jodie Jeffers. Interment followed at Reed Cemetery.
