Jewel Chitwood, 98, of Winfield, passed away October 4, 2016, at Huntsville Manor Nursing & Rehab Facility in Huntsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and LeNora Blevins Loudin; husband, Glen Chitwood; sisters: Wahlen Chitwood, Cora Sharp, Ora May, Ruby Mayse and Marie Stanley; brothers, Gilbert and Ausby Loudin; and in-laws: Marshall Chitwood, Charles Coffey and John Carter.

She joined Pine Grove Baptist Church at age 12, remaining a faithful member her entire life and was their oldest member. She brought kindness to everything she did. She had unsurpassed work ethic and morals and instilled the same upon her children and grandchildren. She believed hard work was a pleasure and insisted that her children adopt this theory. Her life was filled with challenges. She was always embarrassed by her lack of formal education. What she lacked in formal education, she made up for in common sense. She just always knew the right thing to do and how to do it. She was always confident that she was right. She raised her children in the church learning to know and serve the Lord and to stay busy every day. She continued to go strong until late 2015 when she had a bad fall that changed everything for her and everyone that loved her.

She is survived by her children: Joyce (Oley) Chitwood, Brenda Carter, George (Sheila) Chitwood and Roger Chitwood; foster children, Pauline and Pearl and their children and grandchildren, and JoAnne; grandchildren: Julie Jones, Victor Chitwood, Wes Chitwood, Cory Chitwood and Troy Chitwood; other grandchildren: Gussie Hall and Michella Stephens; great-grandchildren: Nicole, Kara, Tyler, Casey, Ashley, Jake, Ashton, and Eaon; and many other relatives.

Graveside service was conducted October 6, at Chitwood Cemetery with Bro. Dale Smith officiating.

Arrangements by Jones & Son Funeral Home.
