Stella Maxine Byrd Cross, 86, of Huntsville, passed away September 23, 2016, at North Knoxville Medical Center in Powell.
Born December 23, 1929, she was preceded in death by her parents, Dilmon and Mae Hughett Byrd; husband, Luther L. Cross; and brothers: Rev. Eugene Byrd, Venis Byrd, Joseph Dilmon Byrd, and Kenneth (Lorene) Byrd.
She was the oldest member of New Salem United Baptist Church, her church and church family were her mission in life. She worked with Scott County schools.
She is survived by her children: Neal (Kathy) Cross of Knoxville, Dwight (Shirl) Cross of Berea, Ky., and Anna (Troy) Hull of Huntsville; grandsons, Jonathan Cross of Berea, Ky., and Tyler Hull of Monterey; great-grandchildren: Kaitlin, Noah, Cody, Aaron, Callie, and Alden; brothers: Paul (Edith) Byrd and Odis (Elizabeth) Byrd, both of Indianapolis, Ind., and Gary Lee (Lois) Byrd of Pioneer; sisters, Shirley (David) Crabtree of Muncie, Ind., and Wanda (Jerry) Byrd of Alexandria, Ind.; sisters-in-law: Gearldine Byrd of Plainfield, Ind., Joyce Byrd of Huntsville, and Betty Morgan of Oneida; and several nieces, nephews and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted September 26, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne King and Bro. John Duncan officiating. Music was provided by Bro. Wayne King, Bro. David Walker, and Bro. Chris Sewell. Interment followed at Botts Cemetery.
