Thurman D. Johnson, 74

Therman Delbert Johnson, 74, of Pioneer, passed away August 23, 2016, at Tennova Residential Hospice in Knoxville, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Scott County, January 6, 1942, he was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Rosetta Byrd Johnson; sisters, Mary Etta Jeffers and Bessie Pauline Johnson; and brothers, Ronald and Donald Johnson.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; was a veteran of the United States Army, and served in the Legion of Honor for the Kerbela Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #670-Robbins for more than 30 years; and was a member of the Order of Easter Star Sunshine Chapter #279-Robbins and Kerbela Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite Temple-Knoxville. He was an electrician and a member of the IBEW and was of the Baptist faith and attended Grace Missionary Baptist Church-LaFollette.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Trula Silcox Johnson of Pioneer; children: Shane Johnson, Angelia (Steve) Dunn, and Dawn (Jude) Jeffers; grandchildren: Joshua Laney, Derrick Laney, Jacob Jeffers, and Emily Jeffers; brother, Dennis (Judy) Johnson; and many other relatives.

Masonic Rite and funeral service were conducted August 27, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Chambers, Bro. Eli Crowley and Bro. Roger Hillard officiating. Committal service was conducted August 28, at Fairview Memorial Gardens with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.
